As time goes on, we are constantly bewildered by how untruths are spit out by people in elected office and how the news media repeats it as the truth.
Columbia County Chief Magistrate Bobby Christine recently announced he was not seeking election to the office he was appointed to in 2009. It is our belief that Christine bought his way into favor with local politicians to get that appointment, and one needs only to go the Georgia Ethics Commission website to review his numerous financial contributions over the past several years. We have detailed Christine’s political dealings in violation of Judicial Canon, and we understand that there may be additional allegations to come forward.
Let’s review what Christine said about his not seeking election to the office he has held for the past three years.
The Columbia County News (Some) Times reported about Christine’s announcement on December 30, 2011: “The decision, Christine said, is based on information that he’ll likely be activated and deployed through the Georgia Army National Guard in 2012.”
”I can’t be on the ballot if I’m on active duty,” Christine said. “As long as I am in the military, this is a potential.” Christine said though he’s met his obligations to the military and can retire at any time, he won’t.
”I’m not going to take my uniform off while we’re at war,”” Christine said. “I’m not going to walk away from the military while we still have troops in harm’s way.”
Then on January 4, 2012 the paper reported:
Chief Magistrate Bobby Christine announced Friday that he won’t seek re-election because of a possible activation and overseas deployment this year with the U.S. Army National Guard.
On January 8, 2012, Barry Paschal reported:
“First out of the gate was Jason Hasty, who this past week announced his intention to run for Columbia County chief magistrate. He made the announcement after Bobby Christine said his anticipated call-up to active duty National Guard service this year precluded him from filing to keep the job he’s held for four years.”
For the record, Hasty’s intention was made well before Christine’s, and Paschal knows that. If Christine were deployed before the election, other people would have been on the ballot. Simply, Christine will never run in an opposed election
If Christine was really concerned about being deployed while serving in an elected office, why did he lobby so hard to get the job in the first place? Why would Paschal feel Christine’s excuse is so important that he prints it 3 times in 10 days?
We have reasons to believe that something else is preventing Christine from seeking election to the office he was given almost three years ago. Some have been telling us it’s related to the Scott Dean situation. Christine has been a previous topic for us, but if you really want to be entertained take the time to read the comments following the above referenced articles on the CCNT’s website. Notice the great lengths Paschal reaches in his many attempts to protect Christine and his misdeeds. You have to ask why the publisher of a small community newspaper would be so willing to defend that which does not deserve defending.
We are close to finding out why.
