It’s All Coming Together

The Augusta Chronicle reported that former Columbia County District 4 Commissioner Scott Dean was reindicted on child molestation chargesYou probably remember that Mike Sleeper was Dean’s campaign manager for a long time, even after news of Dean’s infidelity broke.  But Mike Sleeper is Ron Cross’ son-in-law and as a result is immune from behaving like an elected official.  And did we mention that Mike Sleeper is on the Columbia County Board of education?  After Mike Sleeper came Columbia County Young Republicans’ Sarah Harper Scott to be Dean’s manager.  What’s going on with these family values Republicans?  We guess that family values are campaign topics and not everyday practices for Columbia County Republicans.

As disgusting as Dean’s charges may be, it’s still something that needs to be dealt with.  We always seem to get more insight from comments posted by viewers after stories, and this was no exception.  Last we checked, this story had 33 comments and some were quite telling and some caused us to go back and do a little research.  But one from “Austin Rhodes” really got our attention.

On September 30 at 7:33am “Austin Rhodes” wrote:

Brad…the party primary was days away when the “tryst” was discovered…had there been even two or three months notice beforehand, Dean would have had serious competition, I guarantee it.
So what we were left with was a substandard candidate against him, and pre voting that had gone on for WEEKS before the scandal came to light. He still only won by less than 5%…scandal free, it should have been a 75-25 victory.
It would be the equivalent of Charles Walker’s indictments coming down and all that is on the ballot against him being Davida Johnson (RIP). (of course she was GOP…but you get the point)
Dean sealed his fate forever with me (this was PRE-criminal indictments!) with his arrogant attitude about winning the primary against his silly little opponent and thinking it was some kind of vindication. Once conservatives in CC knew what was going on (the nookie, not the crimes) , the plan was to elect him, then force him out of office and get a solid replacement.
The criminal charges came out of the blue, much later. He did resign, and a FAR superior replacement was elected in Bill Morris.
The bottom line, Dean’s political future was DONE the minute the employee nookie scandal broke, it just took some time to get him gone.

First of all, David Payne is not a “silly little opponent”.  Our opinion is that he is a hard working American God loving and God fearing taxpayer.  Scott Dean…HE’s a silly little opponent.

Are we to understand that Columbia County Republicans are so snooty that they would rather have the tainted Ron Cross sidekick than David Payne?  Payne is not as smooth talkin’ as Dean.  Good!  Payne does not bow down to kiss the Republican establishment’s feet.  Good!  Payne knows what public service is and is committed to it.  Good!

Let’s focus on some of the specific comments posted by “Austin Rhodes”.  “Dean sealed his fate forever with me (this was PRE-criminal indictments!) with his arrogant attitude about winning the primary against his silly little opponent and thinking it was some kind of vindication.”  WGAC’s Scott Hudson knew what was going on and reported on it.  And yes, Dean’s posse gloated and gavotted around town basking in their victory.  At the Columbia County Republican Party’s monthly breakfast a few days later, there was Scott Dean and the Columbia County Young Republicans led by Sarah Harper Scott giggling away just as high and mighty as ever.

“Once conservatives in CC knew what was going on (the nookie, not the crimes) , the plan was to elect him, then force him out of office and get a solid replacement.”  WHOA!  What plan?  “Austin Rhodes”, tell us what this plan was.  Did Barry Paschal, Morris Communications, or WGAC broadcast the plan?  We know of no conservatives in CC who knew or heard of any such plan.

“The criminal charges came out of the blue, much later. He did resign, and a FAR superior replacement was elected in Bill Morris.”  Really?  We all know that Bill Morris was actively campaigning long before Dean resigned.  We also know that Morris was Ron Cross’ hand-picked replacement for his good friend and that Morris was able to simply walk on in to Cross’ office as he pleased.  Morris was being groomed and pushed months before Dean resigned.  “FAR superior replacement”?  We think not.  Ron Cross selected Bill Morris and Mike Sleeper and Trey Allen coached him and that’s enough for us.  But we also reported  and many times about Morris’ spending and voting record which is nothing superior.  We also reported that Barry Paschal was reporting false information about that election.

The Columbia County media was determined to get Dean elected no matter what damage was done to Barry Paschal’s and Austin Rhodes’ image and standing.  Scott Hudson did his best…kinda.  When he broke the news about Scott Dean, he also felt the need to bring up something about David Payne from 20+ years ago, in our opinion to keep voters from flocking to Payne, or to cause them to stay home and not vote.  Either way, their boy was reelected with the help of Mike Sleeper and the Columbia County Young Republicans, and he soon went to jail.

  1. I remember that breakfast and I really remember Scott and Sarah giggling and gloating as little school kids would. There were others at their table, but I am not 100% certain who…90% certain, but not the required 100%. I also remember the YRs rallying behind Scott Dean and Ron Cross, BUT, you need to know that the YRs are not “part of” the regular county party. This means that they can stump for candidates and those kinds of things. I never liked that provision, but it is what it is. What sealed the deal with me regarding the YRs is when Sarah sent that Letter to the Editor condemning the CCGOP and its Executive Board. I was on the Board at that time, and saw Scott at maybe two meetings, so what she is basing her rant on is a mystery (I think that I know), i.e., where does she get her information? At the time, she was the YRs’ Vice Chair. The Chair posted a link to it on her Facebook page praising Scott’s words – I believe that this was April 2010. Fine way for a State GOP employee and State GOP person to act towards a county GOP. Having said all of this, if that letter were written today, it would be accurate…and one probably will be surfacing soon, not definitely, but probably.

And oh by the way, Chairman Mr. Brian Slowinski told me that he is building a defamation case against you, so be very careful. Apparently he reads your stuff.
