Part 2, The Austin Rhodes Show Facebook Wall

We recently told you about The Austin Rhodes Show Facebook wall’s attempt at bullying us into submission which won’t happen.  It’s The Austin Rhodes Show, not The Austin Rhodes News Program, or The Austin Rhodes News Hour…it’s a show.  Its Facebook wall is another show.  We know that the show took down some comments that didn’t conform to the bash the Viewpoint tune it wanted/demanded.  It did leave up a whiney comment from a former candidate who spent the most money and got the least votes in a 3-way race.  The removed comments were not vulgar or in bad taste…they just didn’t go along with the show‘s desires.  So, the show censored them in a show of professional journalism.  Wait, it’s not journalism or anything to do with news…it’s a SHOW.

What happens when people decide to seek public office?  The media supports some certain special favored candidates.  Others get trashed in the press for stepping up and it’s all protected by the First Amendment… and we wonder why more people don’t run for office, and why so few people vote.  What would happen if people started a website and began to expose truths that the established media refused to report?  That;s why we’re concealing our identities.

Barry Paschal had this to say about certain people who did not support Ron Cross in his reelection:

…Snelling is a rabid supporter of Brett McGuire, who is challenging County Commission Chairman Ron Cross in the July 20 Republican primary. Snelling recently sent a letter to fellow West Lake residents repeating McGuire’s attacks on Cross.

Outside West Lake, an easy way to find which commercial properties belong to Snelling is to look for the giant McGuire signs out front…

It’s impossible to mention George Snelling during the campaign season without noting his bullying errand-boy: Jim Bartley.

The public last met Bartley when he ran as a Democrat back in 2000 against County Commissioner Diane Ford. Since then he’s busied himself with various political mischief – he says it is his only hobby – and is now both a member of the executive board of the Columbia County Republican Party and live-in companion of party chair Pat Goodwin.

Bartley was one of the people who orchestrated the ouster of former GOP chairman Lawrence Hammond, largely because Hammond was friendly to Cross. That opened the way for Goodwin’s ascent.

Bartley also is the person behind anti-Cross newspaper ads and direct-mail pieces from the “Columbia County Taxpayors (sic) Council.”

“Snelling is a rabid supporter” eh there Dr. Paschal.  Rabid?  “Repeating McGuire’s attacks on Cross”?  What attacks?  Come on publisher…what attacks?  Hammond was not ousted largely because he was friendly to Cross, but because of the numerous ethics complaints that Hammond did not show up (or a rep for Hammond) to defend even after he was given a 50-day notice.  WHOA publisher!  What accuracy.   “…his bullying errand-boy: Jim Bartley”?  Who has he bullied and what errands has he run?  Another example of Paschal, with Morris Communications’ blessing, using the “free press” to defame and slander people.  We see you made the most of another opportunity to write “Taxpayors (sic)” and mention Bartley’s living arrangements.  So publisher man, why no mention of Bobby Christine’s…JUDGE BOBBY CHRISTINE’S numerous violations?  Publisher, shall we mention the living arrangements of those close to you and why the arrangements are that way?

So you see, if you dare get out of line and challenge the establishment’s/money’s candidates, the media hacks will use the First Amendment to attack you and your supporters in punishment and to warn others who may even think of speaking out and challenging the status quo.  Some may even delete posts from their Facebook wall if you write what they don’t want the public to see.  Some may even censor a judge violating canon.  But we will always tell the truth to the people and will never tell you a lie.

Barry Paschal’s tribute to Maury Povich continues, as if it ever ended: “There’s been so much nastiness heaped on this campaign season that friendships will be permanently broken.”  “Strange. When ‘the media’ reports the allegations of McBerry’s improper relationship with a 16-year-old girl, somehow that makes ‘the media’ the bad guy.”  “But that’s just the way it goes. We report accurately on the nuts and crazies, and rather than look in the mirror, the nuts and crazies blame us for making them look like, well, nuts and crazies.”  “May the best candidates win. And if you’re curious, I’m voting for Ron Cross. Take that, nuts and crazies.”

“But that’s just the way it goes. We report accurately on the nuts and crazies, and rather than look in the mirror, the nuts and crazies blame us for making them look like, well, nuts and crazies.”  Barry Paschal, the publisher, the big cheese, do you report all improper relationships?  Let’s narrow it down…do you report the ones that happened in Columbia County?  We know for a fact that you don’t.  So publisher man, why do you refuse to report on Columbia County’s nuts and crazies?  Don’t worry, we’ll do it, but first, we’ll see if you do it.

“There’s been so much nastiness heaped on this campaign season that friendships will be permanently broken.”  Barry Paschal, CEO, Hallmark.  Many big bad words…no examples.  So publisher, these friendships, would any of them be your friends?  You’re the one who for years has abused the free press to attack those who dare oppose your friends.  We’ll bet that those you so bravely attack in the “media” won’t speak to you next go round (if there is one).  Our opinion is that Bartley, Goodwin, McGuire, Benedict, Payne and others will not give you the time of day…if you try to interview them.  We think that Barry Paschal had buyer’s remorse in 2010…he endorsed Barry Fleming in 2008 against Paul Broun, and THAT was the NASTIEST campaign ever, and friendships were lost.  Never before in Columbia County has there been a race as astoundingly, one-sidedly ugly as this one, and we could make a case that Barry Fleming’s supporters were rabid, and he had Mike Sleeper working behind the scenes.  The lies and smear tactics that those “nuts and crazies (sic)” hurled at Broun; Broun is weak on child molesters, doesn’t support the military/veterans, as well as other lies…see Barry Paschal, we make a statement and then back it up.  If Barry Fleming thinks that he can just waltz back to Atlanta and kiss up to move up, he’s mistaken and we’ll make sure everyone knows (not that they’ve forgotten his campaign against Broun) why he left in 2008 and the vile shameless campaign the lawyer and lawmaker waged.  And for Barry Paschal and Austin Rhodes to continue sucking up to Fleming is equally shameless, but not surprising.  Fleming spent a million and got an asswhipping worth 2 million, and we’re so glad.

“May the best candidates win. And if you’re curious, I’m voting for Ron Cross. Take that, nuts and crazies.”  Who’s surprised that Paschal voted for Cross?  If you voted for McGuire, you’re a nut and you’re crazy.

These kind professional journalism words come courtesy of Barry Paschal, Publisher: “Frankly, I’m surprised the rabid supporters of Brett McGuire didn’t make even the tiniest peep about news of the county’s $27.5 million ‘reserve’ fund. That’s slightly larger than the school board’s reserve, but from a budget that’s less than half as much.”

“…rabid supporters”?  Speaking of the “$27.5 million ‘reserve’ fund”, why not put that or some of that toward the $160+ million debt that Columbia County has

And then, we have this to offer, compliments of Barry Paschal:

Never before in Columbia County has there been a race as astoundingly, one-sidedly ugly as this one. A virtual tag-team of McGuire’s campaign, in tandem with Jim Bartley’s “Taxpayors (sic) Council,” pounded relentlessly on Cross.

Not only did they disparage Columbia County’s government and malign Cross’ stewardship in language that would be laughable if it wasn’t so caustic, but Bartley also bludgeoned Cross with long-dead legal issues dredged up from decades ago in Cross’ former private business.

This wasn’t even the usual faux-politeness whisper campaign that permeates politics; this was unhinged primal screaming.

Yet Cross won. They threw everything they had at him, and Cross still won. The gates held. The attackers failed.

If this were a poker game, McGuire’s people put all their chips on his victory and busted. But it goes much deeper than that; the losers so overplayed their hands that they bankrupted any future they might have had in Columbia County politics. They won’t be welcome if they try to return to the game.

That starts with the challenger himself. Brett McGuire is now officially a three-time loser. He lost to Bill Jackson. He lost to Lee Anderson. He lost to Ron Cross.

McGuire might be tempted to run again. But people like Jackson, Anderson and Cross stay in office because they have built a base of support, and McGuire has infuriated and alienated the base of three political veterans. There isn’t much red left on that apple.

As for Bartley, while he was merely tolerated before, he now is politically radioactive. No candidate in his or her right mind would allow this loose cannon anywhere near them.

A more immediate political punishment is looming for Lee Benedict.

Benedict has run for office on his own twice before and lost, and this year was an early, vocal cheerleader for McGuire. But like the rest of McGuire’s camp, Benedict also went too far. With inexplicable attacks aimed at Cross’ supporters, he seemed determined to alienate as many people as possible.

That wasn’t a bright move, considering Benedict has filed to run for the school board seat of the retiring Mickie Blackburn. Two other very good candidates also are running, assuring Benedict will join McGuire as a three-time loser unless he quits to avoid the embarrassment.

There were many others who participated in this travesty. It’s human nature to rubberneck at a train wreck, but McGuire’s folks who pulled up lawn-chairs and cheered will never be able to clean up their consciences.

Congratulations to Ron Cross, though I’m sure he’s questioning whether public service is worth such grief.

And we wonder why more people don’t run for office, and why so few people vote.

“Never before in Columbia County has there been a race as astoundingly, one-sidedly ugly as this one…”  You must mean Bary Fleming’s joke of a campaign?  And hey…there’s that “Taxpayors (sic)” thing again…still no Bobby Christine thing.  The rest just speaks for itself.  Paschal uses big strong negative words and lobs them towards Bartley, McGuire, Benedict, and anyone who didn’t blindly take Paschal’s orders and support Cross, or at least keep quiet and keep facts to yourselves. “And we wonder why more people don’t run for office, and why so few people vote.”  How true Barry…because of newspapers and talk SHOW hosts who abuse the First Amendment to beat down those who challenge the good ol’ boys good ol’ boys.

The Austin Rhodes Facebook wall monitor/keeper person demands that we identify ourselves.  We just showed you a very small very small sample of what the media does if you run against or question the establishment’s/money’s people.  We print vital facts on the world wide web about how our government is run or not run.  What do you think will happen if we identify ourselves?  The local media can and will continue to run the bread and circuses, mold images for Bobby Christine, Mike Sleeper, Scott Dean, Joe Bowles and others (more, much more, on them later) while refusing to report the truth such as violations of rules that judges must follow.  But if a private citizen makes a spelling error…

So The Austin Rhodes Show can keep entertaining a dwindling audience and just maybe some people will believe what the show reports because they are too lazy and ignorant to seek the truth themselves.  We’ll report the truth with proof while the high and mighty local governments get a lot of stuff (and more debt) to keep the peasants fed and content and some media people will provide mind-numbing entertainment that isn’t close to reality; bread and circuses, go ahead, click it.  As we stated in our other piece on this, we will not be subject to union…we mean, media thuggery.  Our opinion is that The Austin Rhodes Facebook wall administrator/monitor is not demanding we reveal ourselves because of a simple sign your name to it thing.  We believe that the power brokers and the establishment are using their media buddies to flush us out because they know that we publish facts (as the media can do, and even Barry Paschal and Austin Rhodes) and we always tell the truth to the people and never tell a lie…and they know it and hate being exposed.  These media professionals won’t even mention a Columbia County Commissioner being sued for not paying rent on his business location.  WHOA!

  2. Again while you have made good points on some matters you continue to rehash old points over and over. While you say The Austin Rhodes Show has a dwindling audience, keep on talking about the same things over and over and you will have one also.

  3. In a way, I agree with RJH. On one hand, you would (probably) want to report on issues fresh in the minds of your audience so that they keep visiting your site. On the other hand, I would think that you do not want to be one of those outlets that falls back and says, “We reported on it, so there”, and therefore keep reminding people of an established pattern, or history, if you prefer. Strike a balance…or think about striking the balance, it’s your blog. But IMHO, a link to where you wrote about this before would have been appropriate. But then again, you put it all out there for the people to see. Again, you do what you want.

  4. Austin, I have listen to you since day one. I love local talk radio and was so happy when your show began. Keep up the good work. We all need to know what is going on in Augusta and Columbia Co. Luv you, P
