On July 10th, News Times News Editor Donnie Fetter wrote that Columbia County
commissioners approved a $3.8 million bid to construct a new administration building for the department. The bid was submitted by Thomson-based Stewart-Corbitt General Contractors.
The new two-story office will be built on William Few Parkway. The current administrative building is located on Evans-to-Locks Road.
Clayton said construction should start next month and finish in about a year.
“Clayton” is Columbia County Water Utility Director, and Ron Cross buddy, Bill Clayton (more on him Sunday, so check back with us), and the “department” is our prestigious Water Utility Department (more on it Sunday, so check back with us).
Someone using the name “Little Lamb” posted (highlighting and emphasis is our doing): “Cub reporter Donnie Fetter wrote: “IN OTHER WATER UTILITY NEWS, commissioners approved a $3.8 million bid to construct a new administration building for the department. The new two-story office will be built on William Few Parkway.” COME ON! Another Taj Mahal? Can’t the Water/Sewer Utility Department pay for their own offices? Co-mingling water/sewer revenues with general tax revenues is a bad practice. How many other expenses of the water/sewer department are general taxpayers covering???”
What’s the word we’re looking for…AMEN! Yeah, that’s it. A “new administration building for the department”, huh? Why? In all seriousness, what’s wrong with this pack of commissioners? Spend spend spend spend spend is all they know. And the stuff they spend our money on! Funny, all commissioners label themselves fiscal conservatives. WHOA! Well, in fairness, compared to Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, they sure are. And let’s not forget that JUDGE Bobby Christine violated judicial canon by publicly endorsing Ron Cross, and doing so, he stated that “we have not lived beyond our means” and “we have been faithful stewards”. OK Judge, whatever you say. Funny, Barry Paschal has yet to report Christine’s blatant violation, and for that matter, he refuses to report that Ben Harbin done got himself a new campaign committee. Why is Paschal covering for Christine? Does Bobby have the goods on Barry? We think that we know, but more on that later. The point of this article is that yet again, commissioners voted to spend some more money needlessly.
